Accessibility Statement

What has been built and tested for accessibility on Calculator Atlas, and what has not.

We want every calculator to be usable with a keyboard, a screen reader and at different text sizes and screen widths.

Features in place

  • Semantic structure: each page has one main heading, headings in order, and landmarks for navigation, main content and footer. Automated checks confirm one main heading per page.
  • Labelled forms: every calculator field has a visible label. When input is invalid, an error message is attached to the field and announced as an alert.
  • Keyboard use: menus, search, calculators and buttons are built from standard controls that can be reached and used with a keyboard.
  • Visible focus: keyboard focus shows a clear ring.
  • Responsive layouts: pages adapt from phone to desktop widths.
  • Colour themes: light and dark themes, checked with automated contrast rules.
  • Reduced motion: animations and transitions are reduced for people who ask their device for less motion.

What has been tested

Automated checks with axe-core on a sample of pages in both themes found no serious or critical violations, and Lighthouse accessibility audits scored 100 on the page types tested. These tools find only part of the possible problems.

What has not been tested

No manual audit with screen readers, voice control or users with disabilities has been done, and the site has no skip-to-content link yet. No conformance level, such as WCAG 2.2 AA, is claimed and the site has not been certified.
