Editorial Policy
How Calculator Atlas chooses topics, researches formulas, builds and tests calculators, and handles corrections.
Purpose
Content exists to help a visitor get a correct number and understand it. Each page says what the calculator does, shows the formula and a worked example, explains how to read the result and states its limits.
Choosing topics
Topics come from a research inventory of the kinds of calculators people commonly look for, grouped by subject. Choosing a topic is not a judgment that its results are safe to rely on; high-risk topics get stricter handling, below.
Researching formulas and sources
Formulas are taken from standard references: official and standards-body publications first, then open textbooks, then original works. Where no authoritative definition exists, the page says so and states the definition it uses. See sources and references.
Building and testing
A calculator is first written as a specification with its fields, formula, edge cases and sources, then implemented. Expected values are produced separately by a program in a different language and compared with the implementation, including boundary and invalid cases. Worked examples are computed by running the calculator. The methodology describes this in full.
How the text is written
Page text and calculator code are drafted with an AI assistant, then checked by automated tools: examples against independent values, text against rules for length, repetition and placeholders, and links, titles, canonical addresses and structured data against technical checks. There is no named author, credentialed reviewer or editorial board, and none is implied.
Quality standards
- No invented authors, qualifications, reviews, ratings, awards or endorsements.
- No padding. A simple calculator gets a short, complete page.
- No source cited for a claim it does not support.
- Advertising or commercial relationships never change a result.
High-risk topics and professional review
Health, tax, finance, structural or electrical work, food safety and similar topics are treated as high-risk. Calculators in these areas are held back from public release until a qualified professional has reviewed them. We do not claim that all pages are independently expert-reviewed, and a disclaimer is not treated as proof of safety.
Updates and corrections
Year-specific figures are re-checked against the official publication each year. Errors are handled under the corrections policy.
