Mathematical approximations, rounding and precision

Calculators use ordinary double-precision arithmetic and round only for display, as each page states. Very large, very small or very precise inputs can lose accuracy, and results shown to a few decimals are not exact.

Financial calculations

Loan, savings, investment and similar results assume the rate, term and payment pattern you enter. They leave out fees, taxes, changing rates and your circumstances. They are not financial advice.

Tax calculations

Tax limits, rates and rules change by year and place and depend on your situation. A figure labelled with a year came from the official source named on its page and may have changed since. Speak to a qualified tax professional.

Medical and health calculations

Health calculators use published formulas and population averages. They are not a diagnosis and do not replace a clinician who knows your history. Do not change medication, diet or treatment because of a result.

Engineering and construction

Estimates for materials, loads, wiring or structures are not a design. Safety-critical work must follow the governing code, the manufacturer’s instructions and a licensed professional.

Food safety

Cooking times and quantities are guides. Use a food thermometer and follow current food-safety guidance from your local authority.

Jurisdiction-specific rules and regulatory updates

Rules differ between countries, states and local authorities. A calculator built on one jurisdiction’s rules, for example United States federal tax or England’s stamp duty, does not apply elsewhere. Regulations change, and we may not have updated a figure yet.

Review status

Calculators that support a medical decision (laboratory values, dosing, pregnancy, children’s growth), electrical wiring, structural design, food-safety times, laboratory chemical mixing and year-specific tax rules are not published until a qualified professional has reviewed them. The calculators that are published use standard published formulas or plain arithmetic on your own figures. They have been checked by automated tests, not reviewed by independent professionals, so read every result as an estimate and check anything important. No page is described as professionally approved unless it says so.
