Quick answer

To convert a wage to a yearly salary, multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and by paid weeks per year: $25 an hour at 40 hours for 52 weeks is $52,000. The calculator converts any pay period (hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly or yearly) into all the others, as gross pay before tax.

Choose the period of the amount you know, then set the hours, days and paid weeks that apply to you. Unpaid weeks lower the annual total, which is the most common reason a quick estimate is too high.

Pay periods per year

Biweekly and semi-monthly are different: biweekly gives 26 paychecks and two months a year with three, while semi-monthly gives exactly 24.

Going from salary back to an hourly rate

Divide the annual salary by the hours you work in a year. At 40 hours for 52 weeks that is 2,080 hours, so $75,000 a year is $75,000 ÷ 2,080 = $36.06 an hour. If you have unpaid weeks, use the paid weeks you enter so the hourly figure is not understated.

Common mistakes

  • Reading the result as take-home pay; it is gross, before tax and deductions.
  • Using 52 weeks when some weeks are unpaid.
  • Mixing up biweekly (26) with semi-monthly (24).

What happens with invalid input

These messages are produced by the calculator itself, so you know what to fix.

  • Pay amount: entering "0" shows "Pay amount must be greater than 0." beside that field and no result.
  • Hours per week: entering "200" shows "Hours per week must be at most 168." beside that field and no result.

Background: personal finance estimates

Financial calculators project from the numbers you give them. Long-range tools depend on guesses about returns and tax rates that are unlikely to hold exactly, payoff tools assume a fixed payment and rate, and tax or salary results depend on the tax year, filing status and country. Official calculators say their output is for reference only.

For decisions that matter, use conservative inputs and check the figures against your lender, plan documents or a qualified adviser.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Unpaid weeks reduce paid weeks per year

Results are estimates for planning, not financial advice. Lender terms, fees, taxes and rounding rules can change real figures, so confirm important numbers with your lender or a licensed adviser.

If a required value is empty, not a number, or outside its allowed range, the form marks that field with a message and shows no result instead of a misleading number. The automated checks deliberately try invalid entries for pay amount and hours per week to confirm this.
