Quick answer

Study days = floor(days before the exam × study days per week ÷ 7), and hours per study day = total hours ÷ study days. From 1 May to 1 June (31 days) at 5 days a week, 60 hours need 22 study days of 2.73 hours (164 minutes).

Enter the first study day, the exam date, total hours and study days per week. The calculator returns the daily load. Use this study schedule calculator to check your own figures.

Formula and method

Formula

study days = floor(days before the exam × study days per week ÷ 7); hours per study day = total hours ÷ study days

IEEE-754 double precision; shown to at most 6 decimal places.

Counts the days from the first study day up to (not including) the exam day, assumes you study the chosen number of days per week spread evenly, and divides your total study time across them. It does not pick which weekdays, so choose them to suit your timetable. Hours of revision for topics you know better can be reduced; the total study time is your own estimate.

These examples are verified: each one is an automated test case that the live calculator must reproduce exactly.

The first line is the headline result (hours per study day). Below it the study Schedule Calculator lists study days available, days until the exam and minutes per study day, which describe the same case from other angles. IEEE-754 double precision; shown to at most 6 decimal places.

Worked example

31 × 5 ÷ 7 = 22.1, floored to 22 days. 60 ÷ 22 = 2.73 hours.

Where this estimate stops applying

The exam date must be after the first study day. Weekdays are not assigned, so choose your own days.

How the result changes with total study hours needed

Holding every other input at the first worked example, this table changes only total study hours needed. It shows how sensitive the answer is to that one value; each row was produced by running this calculator.

What happens with invalid input

These messages are produced by the calculator itself, so you know what to fix.

  • First day of studying: left empty shows "Enter first day of studying." beside that field and no result.
  • Exam date: entering "2025-06-01" shows "The exam date must be after the first study day." beside that field and no result.

Background: dates and times

Date and time results depend on the conventions a tool uses: whether the end date counts, whether weekends and holidays are skipped, how months of different lengths are handled and whether time zones are applied. This page states its convention, and the worked examples show it.

Dates use the Gregorian calendar and calendar days unless the page says otherwise; check deadlines against the rule in your contract or regulation.

Assumptions and limitations

  • The exam date must be after the first study day
  • Weekdays are not assigned

If a required value is empty, not a number, or outside its allowed range, the form marks that field with a message and shows no result instead of a misleading number. The automated checks deliberately try invalid entries for first day of studying and exam date to confirm this.
