Quick answer
Birth year = current year − age, minus 1 if the birthday has not happened yet. Someone aged 30 in 2024 was born in 1993 or 1994.
Enter an age and the current year. The calculator returns the possible birth years.

Formula and method
Formula
birth year = current year − age (− 1 if the birthday has not happened yet)
Exact.
Without the exact birth date, two years are possible; both are shown.
Worked examples
These examples are verified: each one is an automated test case that the live calculator must reproduce exactly.
Example 1
Inputs: Age = 30; Current year = 2024.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Birth year | 1993 or 1994 |
| Earlier year applies if | your birthday has not yet occurred this year |
Example 2
Inputs: Age = 0; Current year = 2024.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Birth year | 2023 or 2024 |
| Earlier year applies if | your birthday has not yet occurred this year |
The first line is the headline result (birth year). Below it the birth Year Calculator lists earlier year applies if, which describe the same case from other angles. Exact.
Why two years
If the birthday this year has already passed, the person was born in 1994 (2024 − 30). If not, they were born in 1993. Without the month and day you cannot tell which.
Narrowing it down
Add the birthday month and day to decide: someone who is 30 and has already had their birthday in March 2024 was born in 1994. The Age to Birthday calculator gives the exact date window.
How the result changes with age
Holding every other input at the first worked example, this table changes only age. It shows how sensitive the answer is to that one value; each row was produced by running this calculator.
| Age | Birth year | Earlier year applies if |
|---|---|---|
| 15 | 2008 or 2009 | your birthday has not yet occurred this year |
| 30 | 1993 or 1994 | your birthday has not yet occurred this year |
| 60 | 1963 or 1964 | your birthday has not yet occurred this year |
| 120 | 1903 or 1904 | your birthday has not yet occurred this year |
What happens with invalid input
These messages are produced by the calculator itself, so you know what to fix.
- Age: entering "200" shows "Age must be at most 150." beside that field and no result.

Background: dates and times
Date and time results depend on the conventions a tool uses: whether the end date counts, whether weekends and holidays are skipped, how months of different lengths are handled and whether time zones are applied. This page states its convention, and the worked examples show it.
Dates use the Gregorian calendar and calendar days unless the page says otherwise; check deadlines against the rule in your contract or regulation.
Assumptions and limitations
- Two possible years
If a required value is empty, not a number, or outside its allowed range, the form marks that field with a message and shows no result instead of a misleading number. The automated checks deliberately try invalid entries for age to confirm this.
