Quick answer

Scaled size = size × scale ÷ 100. 1920 × 1080 at 50% is 960 × 540, or 518,400 pixels.

Enter a width, height and scale percentage. The calculator returns the scaled resolution and pixel count.

How to use the Resolution Scale Calculator

  1. Enter width (px) (above 0).
  2. Enter height (px) (above 0).
  3. Enter scale (%) (between 0 and 1000).
  4. Press Calculate to see the result, and use Reset to start again.

Formula and method

Formula

scaled = size × scale ÷ 100

IEEE-754 double precision; shown to the decimals indicated.

Results may need rounding to whole pixels in your application.

Worked examples

These examples are verified: each one is an automated test case that the live calculator must reproduce exactly.

Example 1

Inputs: Width = 1920; Height = 1080; Scale = 50.

Example 2

Inputs: Width = 3840; Height = 2160; Scale = 75.

Example 3

Inputs: Width = 1280; Height = 720; Scale = 150.

Results of example 3
ResultValue
Scaled resolution1,920 × 1,080
Pixels2,073,600

The first line is the headline result (scaled resolution). Below it the resolution Scale Calculator lists pixels, which describe the same case from other angles. IEEE-754 double precision; shown to the decimals indicated.

Pixels fall faster

Halving each side quarters the pixel count: 2,073,600 down to 518,400. A 75% scale gives 1440 × 810, about 56% of the pixels.

Rounding

Pixel counts are rounded for display. Keep the aspect ratio by scaling both sides by the same factor.

How the result changes with width

Holding every other input at the first worked example, this table changes only width. It shows how sensitive the answer is to that one value; each row was produced by running this calculator.

How the result changes with width

What happens with invalid input

These messages are produced by the calculator itself, so you know what to fix.

  • Width: entering "0" shows "Width must be greater than 0." beside that field and no result.
  • Scale: entering "0" shows "Scale must be greater than 0." beside that field and no result.

Background: networking and display

Network speeds are quoted in bits per second and file sizes in bytes, and a byte is 8 bits, so a 100 Mbps link moves at most 12.5 megabytes per second; real throughput is usually below the advertised rate. Pixel density is the diagonal in pixels divided by the diagonal in inches: a 1920×1080 display of 24 inches is about 92 pixels per inch, and a 3840×2160 display of 27 inches about 163.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Pixel counts are rounded for display

If a required value is empty, not a number, or outside its allowed range, the form marks that field with a message and shows no result instead of a misleading number. The automated checks deliberately try invalid entries for width and scale to confirm this.

Frequently asked questions

What is 1920 × 1080 at 25%?

1920 × 1080 at 25% is 480 × 270, with 129,600 pixels.

Does scale change the ratio?

Not if both sides scale equally.

What is 200%?

1920 × 1080 at 200% is 3840 × 2160, which has four times as many pixels.

What does the Resolution Scale Calculator calculate?

Scaled resolution at a percentage. It returns Scaled resolution and Pixels.

What formula does the Resolution Scale Calculator use?

scaled = size × scale ÷ 100. Results may need rounding to whole pixels in your application.

What do I need to enter in the resolution Scale Calculator?

You enter Width (px), Height (px) and Scale (%).

How is the result rounded or limited?

IEEE-754 double precision; shown to the decimals indicated. Pixel counts are rounded for display.

What is an example of a resolution Scale result?

With width 1920, height 1080 and scale 50, the scaled resolution is 960 × 540.
