Quick answer
A fraction's decimal value is numerator ÷ denominator, and its percentage is that times 100. 3/8 = 0.375 = 37.5%, already in lowest terms.
Enter a numerator and denominator. The calculator returns the decimal, percentage and simplified fraction.

Worked examples
These examples are verified: each one is an automated test case that the live calculator must reproduce exactly.

| Percent | 37.5% |
| Simplified | 3/8 |
Example 2
Inputs: Numerator = 1; Denominator = 3.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Decimal | 0.33333333 |
| Percent | 33.333333% |

Example 3
Inputs: Numerator = 7; Denominator = 4.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Decimal | 1.75 |
| Percent | 175% |
| Simplified | 7/4 |
The first line is the headline result (decimal). Below it the fraction to Decimal and Percent Calculator lists percent and simplified, which describe the same case from other angles. IEEE-754 double precision; shown to the decimals indicated.
Terminating or repeating
A fraction in lowest terms terminates in decimal form only if its denominator has no prime factors other than 2 and 5. 3/8 terminates (8 = 2³); 1/3 repeats (0.333…), as does 1/7 (0.142857…).
Common equivalents
1/2 = 0.5, 1/4 = 0.25, 3/4 = 0.75, 1/5 = 0.2, 1/8 = 0.125, 5/8 = 0.625 and 7/8 = 0.875 are worth memorising for measuring and cooking.
Terminating and repeating decimals
3/8 is exactly 0.375, or 37.5%. A fraction in lowest terms gives a terminating decimal only when the denominator has no prime factors other than 2 and 5; 1/8 and 1/20 terminate, while 1/3 and 1/7 repeat.
Repeating decimals are shown rounded, so 1/3 appears as 0.333333 and as about 33.33%. Keep the fraction itself when you need an exact value.
How the result changes with numerator
Holding every other input at the first worked example, this table changes only numerator. It shows how sensitive the answer is to that one value; each row was produced by running this calculator.
| Numerator | Decimal | Percent | Simplified |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 0.25 | 25% | 1/4 |
| 3 | 0.375 | 37.5% | 3/8 |
| 6 | 0.75 | 75% | 3/4 |
| 12 | 1.5 | 150% | 3/2 |
What happens with invalid input
These messages are produced by the calculator itself, so you know what to fix.
- Denominator: entering "0" shows "Denominator must be at least 1." beside that field and no result.
- Numerator: left empty shows "Enter numerator." beside that field and no result.

Assumptions and limitations
- Denominator must be above zero
If a required value is empty, not a number, or outside its allowed range, the form marks that field with a message and shows no result instead of a misleading number. The automated checks deliberately try invalid entries for denominator and numerator to confirm this.
