How the date of Easter is set
Western Easter is the Sunday after the first full moon on or after the spring equinox, as the church calendar defines them. It can fall between 22 March and 25 April. This page uses the Meeus/Jones/Butcher method for the Western (Gregorian) date. Eastern Orthodox churches use a different calendar and usually celebrate on a different day.
How the date of Easter is set in practice
Western Easter is the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March, so it falls between 22 March and 25 April. In 2024 it is 31 March, 21 days after 10 March.
Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar for the calculation, so their Easter often falls on a different date. This page uses the Western date.
