Quick answer
Area conversion multiplies by the ratio of the unit factors to square metres. 1 cent (1/100 acre) equals 40.4686 m², since an acre is 4,046.86 m².
Enter the value, choose the units and decimal places. The calculator returns the converted area.

Formula and method
Formula
result = value × (factor of source ÷ factor of target), base unit: square metre
IEEE-754 double precision; displayed to the chosen number of decimal places (default 4). Very small or large results are shown in scientific notation.
Every unit is defined by an exact or published factor to the base unit (square metre). The value is multiplied by the source factor and divided by the target factor.
Worked examples
These examples are verified: each one is an automated test case that the live calculator must reproduce exactly.
Example 1
Inputs: Value = 1; From = Cent (1/100 acre); To = Square metre (m²); Decimal places = 4.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Cent (1/100 acre) → Square metre (m²) | 40.4686 |
| Input | 1 Cent (1/100 acre) |
Example 2
Inputs: Value = 1; From = Acre (ac); To = Square metre (m²); Decimal places = 4.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Acre (ac) → Square metre (m²) | 4,046.8564 |
| Input | 1 Acre (ac) |
Example 3
Inputs: Value = 1; From = Hectare (ha); To = Square metre (m²); Decimal places = 4.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Hectare (ha) → Square metre (m²) | 10,000 |
| Input | 1 Hectare (ha) |
The first line is the headline result (cent (1/100 acre) → Square metre (m²)). Below it the area Converter lists input, which describe the same case from other angles. IEEE-754 double precision; displayed to the chosen number of decimal places (default 4). Very small or large results are shown in scientific notation.
Unit reference
Each unit expressed in the base unit used for the calculation. Conversions go through this base unit, so any unit can be converted to any other in the table.
| Unit | Equals (in square metre) |
|---|---|
| Square millimetre (mm²) | 0.000001 |
| Square centimetre (cm²) | 0.0001 |
| Square metre (m²) | 1 |
| Square kilometre (km²) | 1000000 |
| Hectare (ha) | 10000 |
| Are (a) | 100 |
| Square inch (in²) | 0.00064516 |
| Square foot (ft²) | 0.09290304 |
| Square yard (yd²) | 0.83612736 |
| Cent (1/100 acre) | 40.46856422 |
| Acre (ac) | 4046.856422 |
| Square mile (mi²) | 2589988.11 |
Common anchors
1 acre = 43,560 ft² = 4,046.86 m². 1 hectare = 10,000 m² = 2.471 acres. 1 square mile = 640 acres = 2.59 km². 1 ft² = 0.092903 m². Regional units such as cent, bigha and kanal are included for South Asian land measures.
Squared units
Linear factors must be squared: 1 foot is 0.3048 m but 1 square foot is 0.3048² = 0.0929 m². Using the linear factor for area is a common mistake.
How the result changes with value
Holding every other input at the first worked example, this table changes only value. It shows how sensitive the answer is to that one value; each row was produced by running this calculator.
| Value | Cent (1/100 acre) → Square metre (m²) | Input |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 | 20.2343 | 0.5 Cent (1/100 acre) |
| 1 | 40.4686 | 1 Cent (1/100 acre) |
| 2 | 80.9371 | 2 Cent (1/100 acre) |
| 4 | 161.8743 | 4 Cent (1/100 acre) |
What happens with invalid input
These messages are produced by the calculator itself, so you know what to fix.
- Value: left empty shows "Enter value." beside that field and no result.

Background: unit conversion
Many customary units are defined exactly in terms of metric ones: since the 1959 International Yard and Pound Agreement an inch is exactly 2.54 cm and a pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg (NIST SP 811 lists these). So most length and mass conversions are exact apart from the rounding of the displayed result.
To convert, multiply the value by the source unit's factor to reach the base unit, then divide by the target unit's factor; the unit table on this page lists every factor used. Temperature and fuel economy are the exceptions, because they are not simple multiples.
Assumptions and limitations
- Negative values are allowed
- Zero converts to zero (except L/100 km, where zero is invalid)
- Units from different quantities cannot be converted
- Very large or tiny results switch to exponent notation
If a required value is empty, not a number, or outside its allowed range, the form marks that field with a message and shows no result instead of a misleading number. The automated checks deliberately try invalid entries for value to confirm this.
